Step 1: Read the Market Structure

Mark the most obvious swing highs and swing lows. Then notice whether swings are expanding (often higher volatility and wider stops) or tightening (often a range that can lead to a breakout later).
Don’t force a trend label. Ranges are valid trading environments—they just require different tactics, like fading extremes or waiting for confirmed breakouts rather than buying every dip.
Step 2: Map Key Levels That Matter
Support and resistance should be simple and obvious: prior pivots, old consolidation zones, and areas where price flipped from demand to supply (or vice versa). A few clean levels are usually more actionable than a screen full of lines.
Prioritize levels that show up on the context timeframe first. Then refine them on your primary chart to see how price behaved around those areas (clean bounces, sharp rejections, choppy congestion, and so on).
Also note gaps, prior earnings reactions, and round numbers (like 50, 100, 200) where orders frequently cluster and reactions can become exaggerated.
